Here, we shall discuss about your system-more specifically, your PC upkeep. Here only those are discussed which are relating to individual computer and not about computers in the companies which have specialist departments to look after their health.
The following are some basic points. These relate to windows only.
1.System should have a good antivirus system running. There are many free antivirus softwares available if you search the net. For a ready reference, you can try www.grisoft.com which can give you AVG antivirus free. Immediately after your system is installed, you should install antivirus before you log into the internet.
2.Whenever you log in to the internet, keep to some well known websites only. If you want to login to a new website, please check the credentials of the website before logging in.
3.You must have your windows firewall enabled to prevent any attacks on your system.
4.You should not enable installation of automatic updates of windows, especially if your copy of windows is not genuine. If you enable automatic installation of updates, what will happen is your windows shall go corrupt and useless if is not genuine. Also, never visit Microsoft site if your windows is not genuine. Eventhough they say that no attempt is made to personally identify you, it is enough that they know what the ip address of your computer is. If you enable automatic updates, all your operating system is gone in two or three bootings.
5.While installing printers, please take care to install the driver only. If you install the full software available on the manufacturer's CD, you are installing only an authenticated virus programme which shall get rid of your mental peace. Printer shall require only the driver installation because only with the driver it shall run. If you install full software like I did with HP, everytime when I logged into my computer I used to see the message "low on ink" for my introductory catridges. I filled up ink on them but the message has not gone. When I was printing, the message used to come every second during the print job. One antivirus system even identified some virus inside the software and transferred it to virus vault.
But, another problem came. Windows installer with the name 'unload' used to load everytime I logged in.Frustrated with all this, I just reinstalled the HP software by going to the add or remove programmes menu. But, still the software is not gone.I had to manually remove bit by bit because it would not allow me to remove any folders.
Now, I installed a driver only version downloaded from HP website that got rid of all my problems. I get only one message at the time of printing job stating that the printer is low on ink.
6.Next area of caution is registry entries. If the system is not properly shut down, some registry entries will be truncated. This may create problems in internet connection especially in viewing secured sites. For this there are free registry repair softwares available on net.For your information try www.regsofts.com . Periodically run a full scan and fix the registry errors.
7.Next area of caution is spyware and adware. They sit in your computer and launch an advertisement everytime you do a specified action. Moreover, they can change the default page of your browser to a predefined website, mostly pornographic. If you change your default page to blank, your internet connection is gone. This is until you turn off your computer. After the restart, it works again to go to that predefined website only.
To remove the adware and spyware, you need spyware remover. Some paid options like the spyware doctor are available. But, some free softwares work as efficient as any other. For your information, you can try www.spybot.com for a good spyware and adware detection and removal, it also blocks some malicious programmes so that you will have prior protection and it will immunize your system from attacks.
8.Next area of concern is turning off your computer. Please wait until the message 'now it is safe to turn off your computer' comes on the screen. If children are using your computer, they would probably not wait until that because if they detect elders coming in, they simply swich off the system for fear of getting detected of watching any adult content websites. Therefore, keep your computer password protected and never tell your password to children.
9.Next, work under administrator privileges only when required. Create one user with admin rights. Only when necessary you login and do the work and immediately log off. Don't let the system unattended when the system is on admin mode. For daily use, you can create anothe user without admin rights. For any other member of the household, you have to create user without admin rights. Remember, only one person should have admin rights to keep up continuity.
These are my observations. Whenever I have more observations, I shall publish them. Moreover, if you have any comment, please feel free to contact me at kotababji@gmail.com

Pet Etiquette
Normally we might be having pets like cats, dogs, and rabbits etc at home. Pet animals love us. We should not create inconvenience to our pets. This page deals with how to keep our pets happy.
1.Before selecting a pet, we should know their breed, ancestry and their behaviour etc.
2.If we are having a dog at home, this fact should be prominently displayed at a board outside the house.
3.If there are any visitors, we should chain our dog.
4.Pets should be kept clean always. If they are excreting saliva from the mouth, we should take them to vet.
5.All pets should be vaccinated for rabies immediately after birth. Rabies can attack not only from dogbite, but also catbite. If we adopt a pet sometime after it is born, we should get a certification from the breeder that the pet was vaccinated by him.
6.Pets should be cleaned once in two days.
7.We should provide pets with high quality pet food. About which food to provide? we should take vet's opinion about the brands or types of foods available in the market or at home.
8.If our dogs are taking food, our children should not be sent near them under any circumstances.
9.Normally, when children are playing with the pets, adult supervision is required.
10.Children who are hyperactive should be kept clear of pets.
11.If we are chaining dogs, they should not be chained near children.
12.We should not encourage children to kiss, or keep their mouth near the face of pets. Also, we should discourage children from quarreling with pets, especially dogs.
13.We should not make available childrens' toys to pets. If a pet licks any of our childrens' toys, it should be cleaned with a detergent and only after that, it should be given to children.
14.If we are keeping dogs, only one thing is certain that is dogbite. If we suffer a dogbite, we should not ignore only because it is our own pet. We should visit a doctor and get treated for the dogbite.
15.All pets are not alike. Even among dogs, behaviour changes from breed to breed.
16.Pets should be taken out daily twice. Morning and evening. While taking out pets, children should be discouraged from coming. While outside, pets should be discouraged to quarrel with other street animals.
17.Daily pets should be excersised for about twenty minutes. Playing with them should be a sufficient exercise.
18.If a dog has a tendency to bark frequently, discourage the tendency.
19.Periodically pets should be taken to vet.
20.Pets should have their own place to lay down and sleep. Should not be encouraged to sleep on our beds.
21. While taking out pets, some people lock their pet in their car and go shopping. But, if the car is parked in direct sunlight, the pet may suffocate in car. Hence, a small opening in a window is encouraged.
22.If we love our pets, giving them more food is not the way to express our love. Pets can become obese too. So, give them food in required quantities. If a pet becomes obese, we should exercise it to shed its weight.
23. Pets should be sent to a pet school to learn discipline.
24.Pets should be made disciplined in their food habits. We should have a fixed time for their consuming of food. They should be discouraged to consume food during other times. This saves us much hassels because if left undisciplined, pets can eat our own food thereby contaminating it.

Finance,shares and investments
This site is not for somebody looking for some hot tips about shares. In this, an attempt has been made to tell some basics in simple format. This is only to help you make your own decision.
This is not only about shares. It shall cover every aspect of personal finance. But, we shall cover them later.
I shall give some simple rules about investing in shares.
1.First step is to assess how much money you can spare. Kindly note that risk of loss of capital is huge in investing in shares. But, returns are equally high. Hence, invest only that amount which you can afford to lose.
2.You have to take daily market ups and downs in your stride. You can worry about daily movements in the market but should not lose sleep over it.
3.Chose only reasonably high market cap companies for investing. The reason is because they would be on the coverage list of most brokerages. Also, when there is a need for money, large cap stocks are liquid enough so they can be sold (at market prices)no matter how the market behaves at that point in time.
Note: Market Capitalisation:No. of shares outstanding X share price.
Liquidity:easy to sell at market price. Some companies shares would be illiquid at some downfall in market. There would not be any buyers.
4.Know your company:You have to chose only those companies whose business model you are familiar with. If you cannot understand what the company is producing or what the company is offering in terms of service, you have to avoid that company.
5.You should pick up stocks as near to their 52 week lows as possible. This is easier said than done because you cannot predict the extent to which the share price may fall. In arriving this, you can use earning per share, and price earnings ratio to get any share at reasonable valuations.
6.Do not buy more of a falling stock to bring your average cost of holding down.It is like throwing good money after bad.
7.As far as possible, buy only into those companies which have a consistent record of profit and dividend. The exceptions to this rule are capital intensive companies and turnaround companies.
You can spot capital intensive companies which may not pay any dividend by looking at its sales growth, capital expenditure plans and the robustness of business model.
You can spot turnaround companies by looking at their intrinsic value per share of tangible net assets. Also look at the sales growth, business cycle, coming to any small profit from losses etc.
8.Do not buy into companies which are mired in controversies or subjected at any time to regulatory reprimands. In effect, do not buy into tainted companies or their associates.
9.Have a time horizon of atleast one year for capital appreciation to happen.
10.Time horizon of at the most five years is enough for capital appreciation to happen. You can set
three years also. If capital appreciation has not happened at the end of selected period, quit the stock at whatever price available.
11.If the price has doubled in short time, sell half of the holding so that you recover your cost. You need not sell the remaining half at all since no cost is incurred for it.And buy with the sale proceeds, shares of other companies at lower valuations. But not when the market is hot.Put that money in FD till the market cools off.
12.Do not put more than 25% of your portfolio into the same industry.
13.Do not put more than 10% of your portfolio in a single stock. Use monthly check points to determine the above levels and reduce exposure by selling the stock and not adding other stocks.
14.Do not put all your savings into the stock market alone.Dynamically allocate your savings among stocks, FD,units of Mutual Funds, Life Insurance, bonds and gold.
15.Think twice before buying into a stock that has a face value of less than the standard amount per share.
16.Do not subscribe to public offers of companies which have first generation promoters and the shares are offered at steep premium.
17.Do not subscribe to private placements of new companies even if they are promising to come out
with a public offer soon.
18.Do not enter into secondary market too often. It makes you put more of your savings into stock market. Instead, enter three or four times a year to buy when the indices are low.
19.Take into account opportunity loss i.e., if the money is rotated at a predetermined interest rate,it would earn interest. So, get out from stocks which offer appreciation in short period to cut opportunity loss of interest. Also, chose high dividend yielding stocks so that dividend received to some extent offsets opportunity loss of interest.
20.The best time to buy into a blue chip stock is when it has declared its worst results or is passing through its worst phase.
21.Track a scrip for its price movements for six months before buying into it.
22.Spend no more than 10% of the total cost of your present portfolio to add a new scrip to the existing portfolio through fresh funds infusion.
23.Have a mix of high to medium dividing yielding, growth, turnaround, and blue chip stocks in the portfolio.
24.Plough back the dividend received into the portfolio, into those stocks where you have recovered your investment through partial or half sale of holdings.
25.Satisfaction is of utmost importance. Be satisfied when the expected price is reached and sell.
26.If a company in your portfolio skips dividend for three consecutive years, dump its shares. Only exeptions to this are capital intensive companies.
27.Pick up good shares at immediate ex-bonus prices. They tend to reach cum-bonus price in the long run.
28.Never be fully invested. Keep some cash for sudden crash of market to buy.
29.Never buy shares of airline companies. Historically, they have not made profits for themselves.
Hope I made myself clear in what I wanted to communicate.
